Energy China Group Helps Poverty-Stricken Areas to Prosperity

Updated: 2020-10-21

China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (Energy China Group) has been making efforts to improve the appearance of villages, rural production conditions and livelihoods in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Shaanxi province. The group is overcoming key obstacles of development in the two poverty-stricken counties and helping them win the battle against poverty.

Building road to prosperity

The Tianlin-Xilin Highway, a main section of the Qujing-Baise Highway linking Southwest China's Yunnan province and Guangxi built by China Gezhouba Group Corporation of Energy China Group, was the first highway to pass Xilin in in Guangxi. Valued at about 28 billion yuan ($4.17 billion), the 191.21-kilometer highway greatly improved traffic to and from Xilin and shortened travel time between Guangxi and Yunnan.

It's worth mentioning that during construction of the highway, the company joined hands with the Xilin government to recruit local people to contribute to the project, which boosted local employment and at the same time improved construction efficiency.

More than 1,000 local villagers have been recruited since July 2018.

Encouraging entrepreneurship, developing tourism

Good at making wine, Cai Deyun in Haopingzi village in Zhenba, Shaanxi, had a dream to open his own wine workshop for a long time. However, the dream failed as the agricultural ingredients needed are hard to transport into the mountainous village without a flat road.

Therefore, Cai had to give up on his dream and leave his hometown for a city to make a living.

The new roads built in the village in recent years re-lit his dream. With the encouragement of Li Junfeng, a staff member of Energy China Group who was sent to the village to help with poverty alleviation work, Cai's dream became true.

Li made a plan to increase villagers' economic knowledge and inspired them to make wealth by themselves.

For example, Chen Qingxiao, another pioneer who started a business in the village, gained a total income of 80,000 yuan in 2019 by bee-keeping.

Thanks to the improved road network, the tourism industry is also well developed in the village.

Chen said that years ago when there was no road to the village, even his relatives were reluctant to visit them, not to mention visitors. But now, when flowers blossom in spring and summer, Haopingzi is a good destination for tourists.

Today, villagers are running their own pig farms, mushroom processing workshops and hotels. They are coming up with good ideas to make money and living prosperous lives.

Improving rural living conditions

In 2018, Energy China Group provided subsidies to Yanglong village in Xilin to improve conditions in poverty-stricken households. In 2019, it renovated roofs, division walls and toilets in the village.

The company also built standard clinics equipped with pharmacies and consulting, treatment and public health service rooms.

Energy China Group is still on its road of helping rural areas win the battle against poverty.
