Eight units of the Lower Sesan II hydropower plant, the largest hydropower plant in Cambodia, started to generate electricity on Oct 21, 2018.

The plant was constructed by China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. through a BOT (build-operate-transfer) model. It was designed and built by Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA).

The plant is located in Stung Treng Province in northeast Cambodia. It has a total installed capacity of 400,000 kilowatts, accounting for nearly 20 percent of the total in Cambodia.

The plant's dam, 6,500 meters long, is the longest in Asia. All its eight units were manufactured by China.

The "Chinese technology plus Chinese equipment plus Chinese management" model of the project has further improved the influence of "Made in China" in Cambodia and Southeast Asia.

It is significant in accelerating Cambodia's economic and social development and response to the Belt and Road Initiative.
