The Third Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, China's first curved cable-stayed bridge with steel towers and the first of its kind in the world, opened to traffic on Oct 7, 2005.

Many Chinese central SOEs like China Railway Group Limited and China Communications Construction Company Limited contributed to the project.

A key project during the 10th Five-Year Plan (2001-2005) period, it is an important section of the national highway connecting Shanghai and Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan Province.

It is also one of the five strategic cross-river passages of Jiangsu Province.

Located about 19 kilometers upstream of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, the total length of the bridge is about 15.6 kilometers, with 4,744 meters crossing the river. It has a 648-meter span.

The sections connecting to the south and north banks are 3.1 and 7.8 kilometers respectively.

The whole line is built to the six-lane highway standard.
