The Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway, Africa's first electrified railway and the first overseas line of its kind built to Chinese standards, opened to traffic on Oct 5, 2016.
Many Chinese central SOEs including China Railway Group Limited and China Railway Construction Corporation Limited contributed to the construction of the railway. CRRC Corporation Limited and China North Industries Group Corporation Limited developed its train cars.
The 760-kilometer railway was the first overseas Chinese cross-border electrification project with a complete industrial chain of investment, financing, design, construction, major equipment materials, supervision, provision of locomotives and operational control.
