The Harbin-Jiamusi express railway, the longest in cold regions in China, opened to traffic on Sept 30, 2018, giving railway access to many additional areas.

Jointly built by Chinese central SOEs such as China Railway Group Limited and China Railway Construction Corporation Limited and located in central and eastern Heilongjiang Province, the 344-kilometer express rail line starts from Harbin in the west and terminates in Jiamusi.

The designed speed of the railway is 200 kilometers per hour and the entire line runs through cold areas with temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius.

The railway uses the CRH5A type CRH trains produced by CRRC Corporation Limited. To resist negative weather like sand storms and heavy rains and snows and to guarantee safe operations, 19 cold-proofing renovations were made on the train engines and car bodies.
