Construction of Snow Mountain No.1 Tunnel is completed on Sept 24, 2016

Construction of the Snow Mountain No.1 Tunnel of the Huashixia-Jiuzhi Expressway in Qinghai Province, the world's highest of its kind, was completed on Sept 24, 2016.

Contracted by China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, the double-tubes are 9,065 meters in total length. The average altitude of the tunnel is 4,400 meters, with a peak of more than 4,800 meters.

Located in the core area and buffer zone of the Sanjiangyuan National Natural Reserve, the tunnel is a milestone in China's tunnel engineering and construction in high altitude and cold areas and proof of its internationally leading technology in this field.
