CRCC Contributes to Key Highway Construction in Kenya

Updated: 2020-09-21

The first phase of the Mombasa Southern Bypass in Kenya, was recently completed and passed inspection.

Contracted by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), the project included construction of bridges, steel structures, electric engineering, installation and monitoring of static and dynamic weighing systems and toll stations as well as renovation and removal of railways.

The highway connects the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway (A109), the Mombasa Station of the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway, the goods station of the Mombasa Railway, Moi International Airport, and the container terminal of the Port of Mombasa, making it a significant component of passenger and cargo transportation in the city's port area and in the country as a whole.

The highway once opened is expected to greatly relieve traffic pressure and strongly support the rapid economic development of Kenya's port area.
