The 10 million-ton level oil refining and one million-ton level ethylene project of China National Petroleum Corporation's Dushanzi Petroleum and Chemical Company was completed and started operation on Sept 21, 2009.

It was China's largest refining and chemical integration project and an icon of the country's Development of the Western Regions strategy.

It was also a major component of the energy cooperation between China and Kazakhstan.

The world's most advanced technology was adopted in the ethylene project and such output was the largest and the first in China at that time.

The project contributed to the implementation of the Development of the Western Regions strategy, guaranteed national energy security and promoted continuous, rapid, sound and coordinated development of the national economy.

Located in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the project also contributed to the region's economic and social development and national unity as well as stability of the border area.

In addition, the completion of the project was significant to the structural adjustment of China's petroleum and petrochemical industry and improved the country's international competitiveness.
