Water Treatment Project with Asia's Largest Treatment Capacity Goes into Operation

Updated: 2020-09-17

The sewage treatment plant and the recycled water plant in an eastern suburb of Tianjin recently went into operation.

With half the plant above-ground and half underground, the project currently has the largest treatment capacity in Asia, and can process 600,000 cubic meters of sewage and 100,000 cubic meters of recycled water daily.

The project also has the greatest number of devices of relevant kinds in China.

The project was designed by North China Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Construction Technology Consulting Co., Ltd.

A smart optimal control system is used in the project to realize automated control of the bio-treatment processes, guaranteeing stable water outlet and meeting the goals of energy conservation and emission reduction.

Permeable mat formation, ecological grass trenches, artificial wetlands and a multi-functional storage pond were constructed to collect rain water and turn the affected area into a "sponge city".

In addition, Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology was adopted to improve reasonability of overall layout and model analysis was carried out to ensure stable operation.

Software like Matlab GUI and FLUENT also played a role in simulating ventilation and deodorization systems to make the plants operate with the best performance.

North China Municipal Engineering Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd. has been responsible for design of several large and medium-sized underground sewage plants, with a total treatment capacity of 4.2 million cubic meters per day.

The company will continue to value co-development of construction and the urban ecology and to promote sustainable development of China's sewage treatment projects.
