Ecological forest in Changting of Fujian

Changting county in South China's Fujian province was once the hardest-hit area for water and soil loss due to its thin and barren red soil. At that time, the broad-leaved forest coverage was no more than one percent. Plants there had weak capacity to resist risks.

In early 2012, China National Petroleum Corporation started to help the county and launched a local environmental protection project that also contributed to improving villagers' income.

ChinaCoal Pingshuo Coal Company Limited of China National Coal Group Corporation has firmly followed the principle of environmental protection in coal mining. Over the past more than 30 years, the company has produced 1.5 billion tons of coal and reclaimed more than 50,000 mu of land.

With a more than 95 percent plant coverage rate, the reclaimed land has become an ecological demonstration base that explores greening of the black industry.
