High-altitude Harbin-Qiqihaer high-speed railway opens to traffic on August 17, 2015
Harbin-Qiqihaer high-speed railway, constructed in part by China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, is the northernmost line at high altitude and in a cold area in China. It opened to traffic on August 17, 2015.
The 279-kilometer railway has a designed speed of 250 kilometers per hour and can operate in severe cold weather with temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius.
A total of eight stations are set along the railroad, which has shortened travel time between Harbin and Qiqihaer from three hours to 85 minutes.
The line improved the railway network in northeastern China and contributed to development of the Harbin-Daqing-Qiqihaer industrial corridor, urbanization in the affected areas, and revitalization of industrial bases in the region.
