Pakistan's communications satellite PAKSAT-1R is delivered in-orbit on August 12, 2011
PAKSAT-1R, a Pakistani communications satellite, was launched by the Long March-3B carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Southwest China's Sichuan Province on August 12, 2011.
It was China's first in-orbit delivery for an Asian customer and its third whole-satellite export project after providing satellites for Nigeria and Venezuela.
The Long March-3B carrier rocket was developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and has the largest carrying capacity of satellites in geostationary transfer orbit.
Developed by the same company, the PAKSAT-1R was intended to meet Pakistan's communication needs in various fields like telecom, broadcasting and broadband Internet.
In addition to the satellite itself, the Chinese side also offered relevant training to the Pakistani staff members and helped construct two local ground control stations in the country.
