Construction of the Caculo Cabaca Hydropower Plant in Angola, Africa's largest hydropower plant, started on August 4, 2017, the beginning of the first hydropower project with Chinese enterprises participation in the region.
Contracted by China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd., the designed installed capacity of the station is about 2.17 million kilowatts and will meet half of the country's power demands when it is completed.
In addition, the plant will help save about 2.73 million tons of non-renewable resources like petroleum and coal and eliminate 7.2 million tons of green house gas emissions annually.
The plant will promote Angola's economic and social development, provide power to its infrastructure construction, and vitalize its mining industry.
