SPIC Helps Shandong Village Promote Agricultural Products

Updated: 2020-07-27

State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC) over the last few years sent employees to poverty-stricken areas to lift local people out of poverty. Yang Jun is one of them.

An employee of the power grid design and research institute of Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Corp., Ltd., a subsidiary of SPIC, Yang arrived at Yuhuangmiao village of Dongming county in Shandong province in April 2019.

He realized that developing the regional economy was the most urgent mission in the village soon after his arrival.

By inspection, Yang found that the many high-quality agricultural products in the county had marketing problems. Therefore, he determined to build an effective agricultural product promotion platform and to drive development of the local agricultural product processing industry.

Thanks to support of poverty-alleviation and financial departments as well as help from the media, the promotion platform was jointly launched in October of last year by the local science and technology association, the market supervision bureau and the bureau of agriculture and rural affairs.

After the launch Yang came up with the idea of establishing a product development corporation with brands and products registered at the promotion association.

Moreover, he bridged online and offline cooperation between the company and China Post and helped the village build a Dongming high-quality agricultural product exhibition center.

The new company also signed agreement with universities and colleges on developing an e-commerce platform integrating we-media and online shops.

So far, the company has gained revenue of 6 million yuan ($856,800).

During his stay in the village, Yang also attended economic and entrepreneurship training courses with the heads of local enterprises.

Last but not least, he helped the village apply for 300,000 yuan from the government to renovate street lights, a project in which he applied his professional power industry experience.

His employer, Shandong Electric Power Engineering Consulting Institute Corp., Ltd., also sent a team of experts to build the village into a smart energy demonstration base and to explore solutions for high energy-consumption enterprises.
