Main Transfer Station for Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics Ready for Operation

Updated: 2020-07-22

The Yanqing comprehensive transportation service and transfer center in Beijing, a main supporting facility of transportation service for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, was recently completed and is ready for service.

The completion laid a foundation for operation of the Yanqing branch line of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway which will shorten travel time between the two cities to 30 minutes.

About 75 kilometers from the downtown of Beijing and about 30 kilometers from the competition venue, the center is a transportation hub for all kinds of mechanisms, including high-speed trains, suburban railways, buses, taxis and tour buses as well as cars and bicycles.

Contracted by China Railway 14th Bureau Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), the exterior of the center integrates elements like mountains and rivers which are features of Yanqing district.

There is a silver line flowing from the west to the east, which is like bobsled run or a skiing slope.

The silver line shape was assembled with 32 vertical pillars and 467 steel members. As the shape calls for different size of pillars and steel members, all components were specially and accurately processed during the assembly.

To guarantee a sealed roof, builders measured and analyzed thousands of measuring points and used 20,522 sets of bridge clasps to fix the aluminum plates. Professional welders were also invited to participate in the construction and completed a nearly 1,500-meter high-quality shimmering welding line.

It's worth mentioning that the center was built following the principle of greening and environmental protection.

The vacuum glass on the roof has outstanding performances in lighting and heat conduction, and can collect natural light directly. The roof lighting design also contributes to heating of the center in winter.

To limit air pollution, builders used a carbon dioxide protection cover during the whole welding and carried out pretreatment and sorting of domestic wastewater and other waste.

All equipment on the construction site was de-noised, which controlled noise levels at lower than 55 db.

As the center is now ready for operation, artistic relief sculptures and murals with images of the Winter Olympics to be held in 2022 and the International Horticultural Exposition that was held in 2019 in Yanqing, as well as Badaling Great Wall and Haituo Mountain, both well-known scenic spots in the district, are on public view.

Passengers can now experience smart high-speed train travel from ticket purchase to waiting on the platform and finally to departure, arrival, and transfer.
