Lhasa-Shigatse railway in Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region passes acceptance inspection on July 22, 2014
The Lhasa-Shigatse railway in Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region passed acceptance inspection on July 22, 2014 and was soon open to traffic.
The Lhasa-Shigatse railway is an extension section of the Qinghai-Tibet railway.
About 115.7 kilometers of the Lhasa-Shigatse railway are bridges and tunnels, accounting for 45.7 percent of the total distance of 253 kilometers.
The 10,410-meter Zomga No.1 Tunnel was the first single track of that length in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Contracted by China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, the Lhasa-Shigatse railway was the most-invested construction project in Tibet during the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15).
It has enriched transportation between the southwestern area of Tibet and other parts of China and promoted regional economic growth.
