Sinopec Group is established on July 12, 1998

China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group) was established on the basis of the former China Petrochemical Corporation on July 12, 1998.

A super-large petroleum and petrochemical enterprise, Sinopec Group is China's largest supplier of refined oil and petrochemical products and its second largest oil and gas producer.

It is also the largest oil refining company and the second largest chemical company with the second highest number of gas stations in the world.

Its main business scope includes: exploration, mining, storage (including pipeline transportation) and transportation of petroleum and natural gas as well as sales and comprehensive utilization.

In addition, the company also covers businesses such as petroleum refining, refined oil storage, transportation, wholesale and retail, petrochemicals, natural gas chemicals, coal chemicals, production, sales, storage and transportation of new energy products, exploration, design, consulting and construction and installation of petroleum and petrochemical projects.

Abuja Rail Mass Transit, the first urban railway built to Chinese standards with China-made equipment in West Africa, opened in Nigeria on July 12, 2018.

The railway has a three-dimensional transportation system and plays a significant role in promoting social and economic development of the city and surrounding areas.

Many Chinese central SOEs including China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, CRRC Corporation Limited and Ansteel Group participated in the construction.

The railway was built with Chinese standards, railway design and construction specifications, which drove the export of Chinese equipment, materials and supporting accessories as well as labor.

The project promoted Chinese railway standards to the Nigerian market.

Jinping-I Hydropower Station on Ya-lung River goes into operation on July 12, 2014

The Jinping-I Hydropower Station on the Ya-lung River went into operation on July 12, 2014.

The station was invested and designed by several Chinese central SOEs including State Development & Investment Corp., Ltd. and China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. and is a landmark project of China's West-to-East Electricity Transmission Project.

It saves 7.68 million tons of raw coal per year, which equals a sulfur dioxide emission reduction of 105,000 tons and a decrease of carbon dioxide emissions of 13.71 million tons.

The station's 305-meter concrete double-curve arch dam is the highest in the world. The project was the large-scale hydropower project ever built in extremely complicated geological and engineering conditions.

The technological skills and engineering management used during construction were also the most advanced in the world.
