CHANG FENG, China's first 20,000-ton cargo vessel, went into service at Shanghai Jiangnan Shipyard on June 27, 1971.

Built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, the vessel was 175-meter long and 22.3-meter wide. Its designed draft was 9.5 meters and the projected discharge of water was 28,419.81 tons.

According to data collected during its sea trial, the vessel's metal structure, mechanical components, electro-mechanical device materials and quality of the manufacturing and installation all met the designed requirements.

Performances of all kinds of systems for berthing and light-and-over load sailing also met the demands.
