The last 300,000 kW turbine set of the second phase of the Baishan Hydropower Plant went into operation on June 23, 1992, completing construction of the first hydropower station at high and cold area in China.
Power Construction Corporation of China began building the Baishan Hydropower Plant in 1975.
With an installed gross capacity of 1.5 million kW, the plant has five 300,000 kW turbine units, all designed and manufactured by Chinese central SOEs.
The completion of the plant also symbolizes that China's hydropower equipment manufacturing had entered a mature stage capable of producing 300,000 kW large-scale turbine units.
