Updated: 2020-06-02

Si Zefu, member of the Standing Committee of the 13th CPPCC National Committee and chairman of Harbin Electric Corporation (HE), said at the two sessions that promoting high-quality development will make Chinese enterprises better develop in the global markets.

As a veteran of China's power generation equipment manufacturing industry, Si summarized the importance of developing manufacturing industry.

He mentioned that manufacturing is a pillar industry and an engine of economic growth of a nation. It is also a carrier of high technological industrialization and a main foundation to realize modernization.

Many cutting-edge technologies were based on the development of manufacturing, particularly those that emerged in the 20th century in the nuclear, space, information and biology sectors.

Manufacturing plays a role in all of them. Life styles, production modes and organization structure and business management modes, and even people's way of thinking, depend on the industry.

Si added that leapfrog development of production and modernization, not to mention the prosperity and wealth of a country, can't be realized without a strong manufacturing capacity.

In addition, holding core technologies is also significant to guarantee national security.

From his point of view, the number of overseas Chinese infrastructure construction projects has increased in recent years thanks to the development of the Belt and Road Initiative.

As a central SOE with several overseas projects, HE promotes green and environmentally friendly concepts, fulfills social responsibilities, strictly follows the agreements and has scientific risk prevention plans in place during projects.

The company is working together with its international partners and increasing its involvement in global markets.
