The No 1 generating unit of the Sahiwal Power Plant in Pakistan, the first large-scale energy project along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, went into operation on May 25, 2017.

The Sahiwal coal-fired power project was jointly invested and built by many enterprises including China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd.  and has the largest individual capacity and the most advanced technology built in the shortest period.

The annual generating capacity of the unit is 9 billion kWh, which meets the electricity demands of 10 million people in the country and reduces Pakistan's power shortage by one-fourth.

In addition, the project also created more than 2,000 jobs and helped cultivate nearly a hundred engineers.
