CHD’s Projects Make Progress amid Pandemic

Updated: 2020-05-13

China Huadian Corporation Ltd. (CHD) has advanced some of its engineering projects domestically and abroad while maintaining good prevention and control of COVID-19.

Safe power generation in Indonesia

The No.1 and No.2 power generation units and the No.3 unit of the power plant on the island of Bali in Indonesia had been operated safely for 365 and 360 days respectively by May 6 and May 1, 2020.

The equivalent availability factor of all units in the plant reached more than 95 percent, the highest since the plant went into operation.

The coal-fired power plant was a joint energy project with China Huadian Engineering Co., Ltd. as the holding company.

With a total investment of $700 million, the plant can produce about 3 billion kWh of electricity annually.

It has been responsible for more than 40 percent of power supply of the Bali since it began service in September 2015, which relieved power shortage in the affected area.

Approach Bridge completed in Vietnam

The construction of the main body of a harbor approach bridge of phase 2 of a coal-fired power plant project in Vietnam was completed on May 6, making the beginning of installation work possible.

The 1,182 meter long and 11 meter wide bridge is a supporting part of the project, and can handle 30,000 tons of coal. Construction of the bridge, which will link the coal field and the unloading harbor, started on Aug 17, 2019.

Thoughtful plans were made in advance, anticipating the rainy season and the windy climate as well as tide changes.

The 2 X 660mw coal-fired power plant is a major project in response to the Belt and Road Initiative and the power supply project with the highest level of Chinese investment in Vietnam.

During the construction, the company established a harmonious relationship with the local government and provided more than 2,000 jobs for local people. Training of safety, technology and technical skills was also given to Vietnamese employees.

New CCHP project ready for service in Guangdong

The No. 1 generator unit of the Zengcheng combined cooling heating and power (CCHP) project in Guangzhou of South China's Guangdong province passed the blowpipe test on May 5, confirming the project is ready to start operation.

The first of its kind to feature a double-set of H-level gas turbines in China, the project has the country's largest individual installed capacity and will be equipped with two sets of 670,000 kW gas-steam circulator units.

The low-nitrogen combustion and high-efficiency SCR denitration technologies adopted in the project can eliminate emissions of 1,437 tons of smoke as well as 2,230 tons of sulfur dioxide and 251 tons of oxynitride annually.

The two units are scheduled to be put into operation in May and July this year and are expected to produce about 4.38 billion kWh of power by the end of the year.

The project will be a significant source of power in Guangzhou and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Coal-fired boiler project progresses smoothly in Tianjin

The thermal power project in the Tianjin Nangang Industrial Zone is also smoothly underway.

The hoisting of the main girder of the No.1 coal-fired boiler started on May 6, which laid a foundation for steel frame inspection and heating surface hoisting.

A major project of China's 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20), the thermal power project includes construction of three supercritical CFB boilers with a power of 1,200 tons per hour and three 170,000 kW double-pumping back pressure turbines.

Desulfurization and denitration facilities are also part of the project.

The three units are expected to go into service in May, August and November in 2021.
