Chinese Enterprises Support Egypt's Economic Growth, Employment amid Pandemic

Updated: 2020-05-12

Chinese enterprises in Egypt are making efforts to maintain the country's economic growth and stabilize its employment situation at a time when the global economy is being seriously hit by the COVID-19 pandemic around the world.

A series of all-round pandemic prevention and control methods gained from the Chinese experience that were taken up by Chinese enterprises in the country have been quite effective.

For example, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (China State Construction)'s subsidiary in Egypt is enforcing close management at the CBD project in the country's new capital. The lockdown protects the employees and at the same time guarantees the progress of the project.

Most Chinese enterprises also adopt strict internal anti-pandemic methods including recording employees' health conditions, requiring them to wear masks and screening temperatures every day.

Such rules as regular disinfection of the offices, having meals separately and distributing tips through anti-pandemic pamphlets are also in place.

In addition, online conferences and negotiations were promoted between some Chinese enterprises to keep social distance.

While putting these safety procedures in effect, Chinese enterprises have been able to maintain the pace of their contracted projects.

In the new capital, the concreting of the central hotel's raft base and hanging of the glass curtain wall of the C04 section of the CBD project are completed, as is more than 30 percent of the train stations project.

Power, manufacturing and logistics projects are moving ahead smoothly.

It's worth mentioning that a mask production line jointly built by Chinese and Egyptian enterprises has been in operation and is expected to produce 500,000 masks everyday when the machines are properly adjusted.

The China-Egypt TEDA Suez & Trade Cooperation Zone bonded warehouse project also passed inspection which will greatly improve Egypt's import and export capacity.

Chinese enterprises in Egypt will continue to support local governments to fight against the pandemic and contribute to the country's economic and social development amid the outbreak.

The effort is also expected to become a model of international cooperation of the Belt and Road Initiative and a sample of building China-Arab and China-Africa communities with a shared future.
