The first Dongfeng CA-71 car, the first China-made sedan since the founding of the People's Republic of China, was produced and ready for sale on May 12, 1958.
It was an intermediate car with four doors and six seats and was equipped with an inline four-cylinder overhead engine and a four-speed gearbox. Maximum power was 70 hp and the car's highest speed was 128 kilometers per hour.
The car was designed in Chinese national style.
The two Chinese characters "Dong" and "Feng" and a golden dragon which is a symbol of China were inlaid at the headstock, with Chairman Mao's inscription of "First Automobile Works", the predecessor of China FAW Group Co Ltd, on both sides.
The tail lights were made in the shape of traditional Chinese palace lanterns.
Its production launched China into a new era of sedan manufacturing.
