The tunnel for the first metro under the Yellow River is dug through on May 9, 2016
Construction of the tunnel for the first underwater metro through the Yellow River was finished on May 9, 2016.
The tunnel starts from the northern bank of the river in Lanzhou, Gansu province, runs through the river bed and goes under the dyke and terminates at the southern bank.
The interval tunnel for the metro line is about 2,119 meters, of which 317 are underwater.
As there was no shield tunneling design theory or technical skills to handle the strata peculiar to the Yellow River, special skills were developed by the constructor - China Railway Construction Corporation Limited - to solve problems arising during the shield tunneling construction from geographical conditions like dense large pebbles and a permeable foundation.
The world's first full-spectrum hyperspectral satellite for comprehensive observation is launched on May 9, 2018
Gaofen-5 satellite, generally developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, was launched from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern Shanxi province on May 9, 2018.
It was the world's first full-spectrum hyperspectral satellite to comprehensively observe the atmosphere and land and the satellite with the largest carry capacity and the highest spectral resolution among China's sophisticated Gaofen satellites.
Gaofen-5 can serve as long as eight years, the longest designed life of a remote sensing satellite developed in China.
