The first China-made train carrying exports to a developed country sets off from Shanghai on May 8, 2000
A 94-car train was loaded at the Shanghai Port, ready for shipping to Australia on May 8, 2000.
It was the first China-made train transporting goods to a developed country, which showed China's international competitiveness in the train manufacturing industry and that China was able to produce internationally advanced trains.
The 94-car train included 44 grain hoppers and 50 container flat cars, valued at $3.8 million. The cars, manufactured by CRRC Qiqihar Rolling Stock Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of CRRC Corporation Limited (CRRC), were light in weight and capable of carrying heavy loads at 120 kilometers per hour.
