The Nanjing Yangtze River Tunnel, the first tunnel across the Yangtze River, opened on May 1, 2010.
The tunnel, hailed as "the First Tunnel of the Great Yangtze River", was invested and constructed by China Railway Construction Corporation Limited.
With a diameter of 14.96 meters, it is one of the widest shield structure tunnels in the world.
It was the first time such a long tunnel had been dug through complex strata of gravel sands and pebbles in China.
Many technologies were adopted during the construction to overcome the most complicated geographical conditions and challenges.
It marked that China's super-large diameter shield structure tunnel construction skills had reached a new level.
