Nigerian Communications Satellite-1R, the country's first communications satellite, was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan Province on May 14.

Generally developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), it was the first China-made satellite exported.

The remote sensing satellite station in northwest China's Kashgar and the satellite ground station in Abuja, Nigeria went into operation and CASC delivered the satellite in orbit to Nigerian Communications Satellite on the same day.

The delivery of the Nigerian Communications Satellite-1R was the first successful example of China offering commercial satellite service to international users in an integrated way from manufacturing to launch.
