Sinomach to Participate in Hong Kong's Waste Treatment Facility Construction

Updated: 2020-04-26

China United Engineering Corporation Limited of China National Machinery Industry Corporation Ltd (Sinomach) recently signed an EPS contract to participate in the power island construction in phase I of Hong Kong's first integrated garbage treatment facility project.

It is the first management facility for comprehensive municipal solid waste and one of the most important environmental protection livelihood projects in the region.

The owner of the project is the Environmental Protection Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The project is generally contracted by the consortium of Hong Kong-based Zhen Hua Engineering Company Limited and Keppel Seghers in Singapore, which are responsible for design, construction and operation.

The project is scheduled to go into service in 2025 and the operation period is 15 years.

Located on a 16-hectare manmade island off the south coast of Shek Kwu Chau, waste-to-energy power facilities, waste sorting recycle devices, a seawater desalting plant, a sewage treatment plant, a feeder terminal and an environmental protection education base will be constructed.

Upon completion, a total of 3,000 tons of mixed municipal waste will be handled per day and about 480 million kWh of electricity will be produced annually, which will eliminate at least 440,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

The green energy will be provided to about 100,000 households in Hong Kong.
