CHNG Never Stops Alleviating Poverty

Updated: 2020-04-24

All three precise poverty alleviation targets of China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd. (CHNG) were met as the government of Qinghai province announced on April 21 that its Jianzha town had been removed from the poverty-stricken region list.

The other two regions no longer listed as impoverished are Hengshan district of Northwest China's Shaanxi province and Aheqi county of Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

CHNG started to support poverty alleviation in Jianzha as early as 2011 and has invested 57.7 million yuan ($8.16 million) in 34 projects in education, health care, talent training and social welfare as well as culture and sports, which has effectively promoted regional economic and social development.

The company improved the local school environment and teaching levels over the past few years. It helped the town build a middle school and established a CHNG scholarship to encourage students to study.

Medical equipment was also provided to the town to improve local medical care.

An energy power central SOE, CHNG took full advantage of its technology and set distributed photovoltaic plates on roofs of residents' houses to meet power demands.

Technical skill training courses were also given to the villagers to develop their capacities.

The company will continue to invest in poverty alleviation projects and send teams to the region to consolidate the current achievements and contribute to rural revitalization.
