The first jet-propelled fighter in China passed its test flight on April 23, 1956, which marked the start of jet-propelled aircraft manufacturing by Aviation Industry Corporation of China and was a milestone in the country's aviation industry.

On Sept 27, 1956 ten J-5s became the first China-manufactured aircraft to join the military forces.

China's first 10,000 ton capacity cargo ship goes into service on April 23, 1960

Dongfeng Ocean-going vessel, the first cargo vessel able to carry ten thousand tons of goods available since the founding of the People's Republic of China, went into service on April 23, 1960.

The ship was designed and built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), and demonstrated the country's capacity in ship design and manufacture, as well as supporting facility production, at that time.

The ship was the foundation of the mass production of large-scale ships in China.

Nearly 300 companies, factories and colleges participated in its construction, providing more than 2,600 pieces of equipment and machines. For instance, the ship's high strength marine low carbon alloy steel was produced by China Ansteel Group Corporation Limited.

The production of a steam generator with a power production capacity of a million kilowatts for Hongyanhe 5 generator units was completed and ready to ship on April 23, 2018.

The generator was built by China First Heavy Industries and was the first steam generator independently developed by the company.

The production of the generator also played a significant role in China's realizing local production of main technical nuclear power equipment.

The steam generator is one of the key components in a nuclear power plant and plays a significant role in the plant's safety.
