China-Africa Xai-Xai Agricultural Cooperation Project Welcomes 3rd Harvest

Updated: 2020-04-21

The 37,200 mu (2,480 hectares) rice farming project in Mozambique's Xai-Xai district recently had its third harvest which would be completed by the end of June.

Located in Província de Gaza in South Mozambique, the project is invested by the China-Africa Development Fund and managed by China Railway 20th Bureau Group Co., Ltd.

In the past three years, China Railway 20th Bureau Group Co., Ltd. fulfilled its social responsibility and drove up local agricultural production by cooperative farming. About 1,500 households were taught rice farming skills and more than 10,000 people benefited from the project directly and indirectly.

To improve rice output, the company introduced Chinese rice farming skills and resources to the district and improved the production to 7 tons per hectare, which helps relieve the country's food shortage.

Based on the project, the company expanded the industrial chain and promoted modern agriculture in the country. It brought unmanned drones to field management and developed diversified agricultural operation which not only includes farming, processing and sales, but breeding, greenhouse vegetable farming, wine making and beef processing as well.

There are COVID-19 confirmed cases in Mozambique at present. The company has prepared enough masks, disinfectant and thermometers for use in field work, transport and warehousing to guarantee employees' health and a successful rice harvest.
