CCTEG Continues Poverty Alleviation Work amid Pandemic

Updated: 2020-04-17

Han Fei waved goodbye to his family and returned to Wuxiang town in Shanxi province on Feb 2 this year, committing himself to the town's COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control as well as poverty alleviation.

Han is an employee of China Coal Technology & Engineering Group Corp (CCTEG) and was sent to the town for precise poverty alleviation work.

During the pandemic outbreak, he helped the town solve the problem of shortages of anti-pandemic supplies including masks, protective suits and disinfectant and guaranteed sufficient reserves.

Promoting industries is a main method to eliminate poverty in any area.

Han continued to work on confirming the quality of samples of deep processed millet product and negotiated with producers and sales promoters. Now, the town's millet deep processing industry has almost returned to its previous strength.

In Lijiagou village of Wuxiang, another CCTEG's employee, Zhang Lei, has also been busy in resuming production at a chili sauce processing workshop.

The workshop was invested and built by CCTEG in the past five years, helping chili plantation and processing to grow into a main industry in the village.

Within just five years, chili farming areas increased from 50 mu to 760 mu and propelled more than 500 peasant households out of poverty.

Other CCTEG's employees on the front-line of poverty alleviation also returned to the battle to support the poverty-stricken areas amid the pandemic.

"Pandemic prevention and control must be emphasized. Meanwhile, we should also try to resume production to win both battles," said Tao Sanbao, another employee sent by CCTEG to support poverty alleviation in Shouxian town of Anhui province.

Tao returned to the town the first day after the Spring Festival holiday, burying himself in optimizing the local medical mechanism and compulsory education system.

He was often seen at the renovation sites of the four clinics and the playground of the Lishu primary school. The two projects were invested by CCTEG with respectively one million yuan and 300,000 yuan.

During the pandemic outbreak, Tao helped the workers on the sites screen temperatures twice a day and always disinfected the sites to guarantee safety and cleanliness for the engineers and other workers.

From January to March, 2020, CCTEG invested nearly two million yuan in over ten poverty alleviation projects and made 28 purchases of agricultural products produced by poverty alleviation targeted areas, spending 1.56 million yuan, which relieved the areas from the impact of the pandemic.

The year 2020 is crucial in winning the anti-poverty battle. CCTEG will continue to fulfill its central SOE duty and remain devoted to poverty alleviation amid the pandemic.
