The largest hydropower station in Pakistan, contracted by Energy China, goes into service on April 13, 2018

The first generator unit of the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project , contracted by China Energy Engineering Group Co Ltd (Energy China), went into service on April 13, 2018.

The project was a first involving the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and is playing a role in the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative.

It was also the largest hydropower project in the country and was titled the "Three Gorges Project of Pakistan".

The hydropower station features four mixed-flow generator sets, with a gross installed capacity of 969 megawatts.

About 5.15 billion KWH of clean electricity is provided by the station annually, accounting for 12 percent of the nation's total hydropower generation, which relieves the problem of electricity shortage in Pakistan.
