Updated: 2020-03-31

Sixteen mask production lines built by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) had produced more than 5.5 million masks by March 22. Another production lines is ready for operation and four more are under construction.

CNPC began to build mask production lines on Feb 6 and the first six were completed and went into operation within 22 days.

The production lines already in operation are in four subsidiaries of CNPC: five in PetroChina Lanzhou Petrochemical Company, four in the Daqing Oil Field, three in PetroChina Daqing Petrochemical Company and four in PetroChina Fushun Petrochemical Company.

It is expected that by end of March, all 21 lines will be completed and in production. At that time, daily output will reach 1.5 million masks.

So far, the Lanzhou and Daqing subsidiaries have obtained registration certificates and permission to produce medical equipment, and meet sales requirements. Other relevant certificates are awaiting approval and the products are in testing.

Melt-blown fabric is a key raw material for mask production, which means the level of supply plays a significant role in improving mask production.

CNPC's North China chemical sales subsidiary took full advantage of its resources and purchased the raw material from more than 10 producers to guarantee supply.

In early March, CNPC started a project to build melt-blown fabric production lines. So far, four lines are under construction in PetroChina Lanzhou Petrochemical Company and PetroChina Liaoyang Petrochemical Company, and are expected to put into operation by the end of April.

Meanwhile, CNPC's petrochemical research institute is also cooperating with other enterprises to develop and produce melt-blown fabric. So far, they have produced at least 13 tons of the material which is being used to make 13 million masks per day.
