The Kariba South Extension Project in Zimbabwe, undertaken by Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), a Chinese central SOE, finished construction on March 28, 2018, marking the operation of Zimbabwe's largest hydroelectric project since the country's independence.
The project, whose contract amount reached $355 million, increased Zimbabwe's electricity supply by 20 to 30 percent, greatly relieving power shortages in the country.
The project has not only taken China's technologies, equipment and labor resources into the international market, but has also honored charity, local environmental protection and employment promotion.
The construction, emphasizing employee training and welfare, has provided over 3,000 local employment opportunities.
