The CRH2E-2463 was the China's first CRH sleeper train in longitudinal layout. It has a design speed of 250 kilometers per hour and windows on up and down sides of the bunk beds. Two lines of black window straps can be seen from the outside of the train.

The new train has 16 carriages and a total length of 412.8 meters; 11.4 meters more than the CRH2E, a sleeper train in horizontal layout and the direction of bunks is paralleled with the train direction. The new train can carry 880 passengers, with the transportation capacity increased by 37% compared to the original CRH2E.
