Trial flights of China's indigenous third-generation Jian-10 (Fighter-10) ended successfully on Mar 23, 1998, a clear sign that China's aerospace industry had made a historic breakthrough from second to the third generation level.
Developed by AVIC Chengdu Aircraft Industrial (Group) Co., Ltd., the fighter, with a large thrust turbofan engine and a canard pneumatic layout, is a middle-sized supersonic aircraft with multiple functions and all-weather advantages.
The Jian-10 was put into operation by the military in 2003 and was the first of its kind in China's military aircraft development history. In 2007, the Jian-10 project won the top prize of the Awards for Scientific and Technological Progress.
In 2018, the Jian-10-B, equipped with a vector motor, showcased its maneuverability during the China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition in Guangzhou's Zhuhai.
