Updated: 2020-03-17

China Eastern Air Holding Co. Ltd (China Eastern) arranged a chartered flight to send nine Chinese anti-epidemic experts as well as about nine tons of supplies to Rome, capital of Italy, on March 12.

The nine experts are from the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, the Red Cross Society of China, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Red Cross Society of China Sichuan Branch and Sichuan Center for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as West China Hospital of Sichuan University.

All of them have been devoted to China's COVID-19 epidemic prevention, control and treatment and some also contributed to rescue efforts in the Wenchuan earthquake in Southwest China's Sichuan province in 2008, and the anti-Ebola battle in West Africa.

Although there were only nine passengers, China Eastern chose the wide-body A350 to carry out the flight to guarantee transport of the anti-epidemic supplies. Three skillful captains with rich experience shouldered the mission. The flight crew was also specially chosen to guarantee a safe and smooth journey.

As for the supplies, they were transported from several provincial regions through Eastern Air Logistics Co., Ltd.'s green passages on March 12.

To ensure smooth check-in and boarding of the experts, the airline set up dedicated check-in counters and prepared special containers for luggage.

Ground service personnel also paid careful attention to the transfer of fragile materials and prepared flight supplies including disposable blankets and disinfectant goods in advance.
