China Railway Materials Group Corporation (CRM) has taken full advantage of its logistics system to ensure the transport of critical materials for domestic and overseas projects during the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic.
CHINA RAILWAY & ITOP LOGISTICS CO., LTD, a subsidiary of CRM, based in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, was responsible for transporting steel produced by China Baowu Steel Group Corporation Limited for construction of the Leishenshan Hospital and manufacturing of ambulances.
By the end of February, CHINA RAILWAY & ITOP LOGISTICS CO., LTD had transported at least 50,000 tons of steel in Central China on more than 800 trains.
The steel was also used in some national major hydropower projects within the region.
Transport of overseas projects was also maintained. The third shipment of steel rails for the China-Laos railway was completed with the Vientiane track-laying base in Laos receiving all 266 cars of rails on schedule.
According to CRM, its responsible department for transport of railway construction materials shipped 4,900 tons of steel, 290,000 square meters of waterproof board, 30,000 meters of water-stop belt and 635 tons of steel strands by road in February.
Another dedicated train carrying 41 containers of such construction materials as steel pillars, beams and davit components for the Hungary-Serbia Railway departed from the Wuhan central station on Jan 22.
After about 25 days traveling through six countries including Kazakhstan and Russia, the train arrived at Hungary's capital Budapest, from where the goods were delivered to the construction sites after customs clearance.
Other affiliated companies of CRM also adjusted logistics plans to guarantee transport.
For example, China Railway Materials Railway Equipment Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of CRM focusing on sales of railway cars, locomotives and railway equipment as well as other railway-related materials, coordinated supply plans and guaranteed transport of H-type steel transport for Masteel Group.
To lower delay risks, land transport routes were designed to avoid roads passing lockdown areas where the epidemic was strongest. Backup plans were also made in case of an emergency.
By the end of February, the company had delivered more than 1,400 tons of H-type steel by road and more than 800 tons by rail, which met its buyer's demands.
To ensure on-schedule progress of most projects, CRM has resumed production. So far, more than 85 percent of its subsidiaries and production enterprises have resumed operation.
