China set a world record for the fastest demolition of a heavy single bridge on Mar 16, 2018

The Second Harbour Engineering Company(CCCC) successfully removed the landing section of the Beizhai Viaduct in Shanghai in a single piece on Mar 16, 2018.

The section was 67.5 meters in length, 18 meters in width and 3,050 tons in weight. The whole removal process only took one hour, setting a world record for the fastest demolition of a heavy single bridge.

A self-propelled modular transporter independently developed by China Baowu Steel Group Corporation Limited was applied to carry the single bridge during the removal. The transporter can hold sections of various tonnage and forms and compose different modules according to specific situations. The whole process doesn't need any other hoisting equipment or cranes.

The Shanghai project is an example of demolition of its kind for downtown areas.
