The world's largest-scale pumped storage power station puts into operation on Mar 12, 1994
Guangzhou Pumping Storage Station, China's first large-scale one, finished its first phase construction and all four units were put into operation on March 12, 1994.
The largest pumped storage power station at that time in the world, Guangzhou Pumping Storage Station, developed by China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. (CSG), has a total installed capacity of 2.4 million kilowatt with eight 300,000 kW units that can adjust between pumping and power generation.
Apart from imported electromechanical devices, the whole design and construction of the power station was independently finished by several Chinese central SOEs such as the Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA).
The operation of Guangzhou Pumping Storage Station marked entrance to the world level of China's design and construction of large-scale pumped storage power station.
