CNPC's Overseas Projects Progressing Stably

Updated: 2020-03-04

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC)'s overseas projects have gained crude and natural gas output of 14.71 million tons from Jan 1 to Feb 20 amid the COVID-19 outbreak, 14.13 percent of the annual target.

Equity crude production was 11.07 million tons and equity natural gas output was 4.58 billion cubic meters.

CNPC's international department immediately realigned deployment when the epidemic broke out and stopped dispatching personnel from China to other countries to help prevent spread of the epidemic.

The company's international offices are also concerned about epidemic development where the overseas projects are located and have strengthened communication with Chinese embassies to prevent and control the disease.

As for the employees who left China for international projects after Jan 10, they were in quarantine and gave a health report every day. Special guidance was also given to them so they could acquire more information about the epidemic.

The Middle East office launched an anti-epidemic instruction group, figured out the locations of disease prevention and control institutes and detection clinics and made emergency plans including preparation of relevant drugs.

CNPC's branch in Central Asia, which is responsible for business in six countries, including Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, has provided epidemic development information to the local governments to help reduce local employees' and residents' anxiety.

The Latin American and West African branches have also taken prevention and control measures.

In addition to the international branches, other foreign-related departments of CNPC have established a mechanism to respond to any emergency and launched a column on the overseas risk-alarm APP to inform people in overseas projects about the epidemic development and give them tips on preventing and controlling the disease.

The entry control measurements and flights in several countries are also regularly updated to support international offices' disease prevention.

To ensure enough storage of critical anti-epidemic materials including masks, ethanol, protective goggles, thermometers and protection suits, CNPC's subsidiary China Hua You Group Corporation also helped raise such materials for China.

They called on local Chinese enterprises to donate for the anti-epidemic battle in China and purchased medical materials from the countries where they are located.

By Feb 6, China Hua You Group Corporation had sent a large amount of anti-epidemic materials including more than 1.5 million masks back to China, while another 40,000 critical articles were raised by PetroChina International Co., Ltd. and delivered there as well.

Under strict and in-time epidemic-prevent management, CNPC's main overseas oil and natural gas projects are operating stably.

The HORM oil field of Andes company, a subsidiary of PetroChina international Co., Ltd. in Ecuador, completed operation tests of two new wells: Paiche-2 and Paiche-3. The two wells can produce 579 and 901 barrels of oil per day with a water content rate of two percent and one percent, respectively.

CNPC International Middle East produced 8.90 million tons of oil, 127,000 tons more than planned. The Chinese equity oil output was 4.49 million tons with 97,000 tons more than the scheduled amount.

CNPC (Turkmenistan) Amu Darya River Gas Co exported about 1.23 billion cubic meters of gas and produced 23,000 tons of gas condensate in January, which also exceeded the planned output.

Similar progress was made in CNPC's branches in Latin America and Africa.
