POWERCHINA to Participate in Bangladeshi Airport Overpass

Updated: 2020-03-03

An agreement on construction and operation of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport's overpass highway in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, was signed by Chinese and Thai enterprises on Feb 25.

Three companies – Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), China Shandong International Economic & Technical Cooperation Group Ltd (CSI) and Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited (ITD) – will jointly be responsible for investment, construction and operation of the project.

The overpass to be built through downtown Dhaka will be a 20-kilometer four-lane highway and will link with the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway (the N1).

In addition, the project also includes construction of a 26.58-kilometer ramp road off the overpass.

Upon completion, driving time from the airport to the N1 will be shortened to 20 minutes, which will greatly relieve the traffic pressure in Dhaka and promote rapid development of the city's economy.

The highway will also play a significant role in building the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar economic corridor.
