Chang'e 1, China's first lunar orbiter lands at the targeted point on March 1, 2009

Chang'e 1, developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, landed at the predetermined point on March 1, 2009, demonstrating that China had met all engineering and scientific goals of the nation's first lunar probe project.

Chang'e 1 is China's first lunar exploration satellite to orbit the moon. The project allowed China to clarify overall design and development procedures for such missions.

Since then, China has had the capacity for deep space exploration implementing the necessary core technologies as well as related independent intellectual property rights.
