China's first hydrogen tram project starts construction on Feb 27, 2017

China starts construction of its first hydrogen tram project in Gaoming District, Foshan of south China's Guangdong Province on Feb 27, 2017.

The project was contracted by China Railway Group Limited (CREC). The tramcars operating on the line were developed, designed and manufactured by CRRC Corporation Limited (CRRC).

Compared to traditional tramcars, the hydrogen ones use hydrogen fuel batteries and are driven by power produced by the chemical combination of hydrogen and oxygen in the batteries.

The project was a model for development of hydrogen tramcars in China.
