Barrage of the Qingtongxia water control project completed on Feb 24, 1960

The barrage of the Qingtongxia water control project over the Yellow River was completed on Feb 24, 1960.

A hydro project integrating power generation, irrigation and water control, the project contributed to ice flood controls on the Yellow River in the Ningxia Hui and Inner Mongolia autonomous regions.

It also played a role in forming a 10 million mu (666,666.67 hectares) irrigation network on the Yellow River plain and a pumping irrigation network in mountain areas.

The project built the first hydro power plant in the Ningxia Hui autonomous region and provided enough electricity and water resources to support development of industry and agriculture in affected areas.

Many central SOEs including Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) participated in the project.
