POWERCHINA Guizhou Engineering Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), recently signed an EPC contract with Marubeni Corporation of Japan and Total Corporation of France in Dubai for an 800.15-megawatt photovoltaic power station to be located in Halsa, Qatar.
As a part of the Qatar 2030 National Vision, the power station will be Qatar's first non-fossil-fuel charging station, and will go into full operation before the 2022 World Cup and meet 10 percent of the country's peak electricity demand.
When completed, the project will be the third largest single photovoltaic project in the world, the largest photovoltaic project using tracking systems, and the largest photovoltaic project using two-sided components.
On Jan 19, Marubeni Corporation of Japan and Total Corporation signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with Qatar Petroleum Corporation.
The project covers an area of 10 square kilometers. The first phase of the 400-megawatt project will be completed in the first quarter of 2021, and its full power generation capacity will be connected to the grid in the first quarter of 2022.
