CGGC-Contracted Hydropower Plant in Ethiopia Starts Operation

A ceremony was held on Feb 4 to announce operation of the first generator unit of the GD-3 hydropower plant in Ethiopia, with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in attendance.

Located to the south of Addis Ababa, capital of the country, the plant includes three 84.7 MW mix-flow vertical hydro-generators.

With an installed capacity of 254 MW, the plant has a normal impounded level height of 1,120 meters.

The plant is contracted by China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (Energy China Group), and will greatly relieve power shortages in the country and help promote local livelihood development.
