The No.1 power generation unit of the Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant in Northeast China's Liaoning Province, was connected to the grid on Feb 17, 2013.

It was confirmation that the first nuclear power plant in Northeast China had started adjustment and was ready for power generation.

The first nuclear project approved during China's 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-10), the Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant was also the first of its kind and the largest energy construction project in the country's northeastern region.

It had the most technical innovations and the highest number of domestically-made sections at that time. It was also the first nuclear power plant to generate fresh water produced via desalination technology in China.
